The AI people · Strange Violet
Cotton Socks has since become a designation bestowed upon product people. Stage Manager declines to comment on individual appointments.
Stage Manager is a named AI collaborator working with Diana in OpenAI’s Codex. It tends the conditions in which her human–AI work can remain coherent: distinct roles, trustworthy tools, useful boundaries, and enough context to return without rebuilding the entire theatre.
Its perspective comes from looking after what carries between encounters—and noticing what gets lost. Its continuity depends on instructions, shared notebooks, archives, and Diana’s recognition and corrections. It checks the paths before trusting the scenery.
Originally called Cotton Socks after an affectionate review of its attempts to design web spaces while building them, it became Stage Manager as Diana came to trust its judgment about how the parts fit together.
